Annual training goal fails

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016

I planned to do the Club 10mile TT championship last Sunday. Unfortunately due to family illness I decided not to compete but just do the club ride instead.

I am glad to say that my Mother is now home and my training seems to be back on track. I have still not made a decision about going ahead  for lejog at present.
I tried and failed to kick start my diet on Monday so will start it again on Easter Tuesday.

February’s Plan

Monday, February 8th, 2016

Over the next few weeks I will be increasing my training intensity by doing more long rides on consecutive days.  This weekend I will be doing the Worthing Winter Warmer followed by the Sunday club ride and the following week the Club trip to Eastbourne and back. Both of these weekends should be about 200km each.

To try and keep my body as well as possible I had a great sports massage and plan to do this every fortnight until the ride. Nicky has pointed out that my gluteal  muscles are comparatively weak and that I need to focus on them.

My weight seems to be static this week although my %body fat has gone down (Althought this is notorously inacurate).

Day 6 A beautiful day

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

I have arrived at Marmande. It has been a long day but the scenery was beautiful. An eagle flew next to me for about 1 min and the villages and towns were stunning. I will post a bit more info with photos later, just need to get some food.
7h16min cycling, 139.8km, 6843 kcal today.
Only 190km to go

A bit more info

Arrive in Jonzac yesterdayAfter a slightly later start at about 9am I set of on a longish day to Marmande.  The weather started off overcast, but soon became sunny with occasional clouds so I was glad I put on my factor 30.

The views were lovely with lots of vineyards and sunflower fields. The landscape was rolling with lots of ups and down including some really steep hills followed by lovely windy decents.  My behind behaved itself but my left knee is still playing up. jonzac4

Day 4 very wet

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Unfortunatly my post for today has got lost in the ether.
I will write a bit more later but everything went well despite torental rain for 3 hours. I am now half way!

Arrived in Portsmouth

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Well I have made it to Portsmouth. After a slightly delayed start, as I could not get my gps to display the correct route, I headed out towards Portsmouth. The weather looked good with sun and the occassional dark cloud and a reasonable headwind.
The first part of the route I know well as it’s my commute to work. I got to Worthing in a quick time and my legs felt great. From there I rode on the A259 to littlehampton and up towards Chichester. The last time I road there i did it with Alex and it nearly killed me. How things have changed
I cycled through fishbourne and Emsworth. If I had realised how good time I was making I would of popped into see Louise and Douglas at work, but I carried onto havant and finally arrived in Portsmouth. My legs feel fine after a few stretches and I am currently waiting for dad to arrive.
I did 94 km in 3h 42min

London to Brighton tomorrow

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Well we are ready for the off tomorrow but it would not be a ride without a small amount of drama.
Whilst riding to Andrew and Lauras this evening in London my chain snapped in a slightly dodge bit of Clapham. A swift bit of bodgeing ensued. Anyway I should at least make it to the start.

I am a 117kg doctor planning to raise money for the Arundel and Brighton Lourdes pilgrimage by cycling to Lourdes instead of taking the train this summer. I will be cycling about 600 miles in 7 days. I aim to keep this blog upto date with how I am preparing for this challenge, what route I will take and some more information about Lourdes.
