Little Lumpy bumpy experience

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

This morning, following a great day at Twickers yesterday watching the Baa-Baas beat England, I got up at at 7am and Soph dropped me of in Haslemere for the Little Lumpy 100 mile ride. All the signals were that it was going to be a good ride with wonderful weather. (more…)

Feeling better

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I seem to be feeling a bit brighter today, I had an early start getting woken at 5 am but since then I have been doing ok. I am route planning at the moment which seems to be very hard work.  Much of the problem is finding cheap accommodation on the way.

Training wise I will be doing a hour or so this evening and then have a long ride tomorrow followed by a 100 miler on Sunday.  I aim to break the 8 hour time as the weather looks better.

I still need loads more sponsorship so if anybody has any bright ideas on how to go about getting more please let me know using the comments button below.

Fatigue

Monday, May 25th, 2009

I don’t know why but at the moment I seem very tired with a very flat mood. My sleep has been very disrupted and as a result I have not felt much like doing anything, let alone cycling. I suppose I am glad that I have this trip to look forward to doing as it gives me an incentive to get up and do some exercise.
The good thing is I have managed to do some cycling.
On Saturday I went for a ride with Soph around Lewes which was lovely, we found a pub by the river which we will probably go back to.
Today I did the Haywards Heath loop again. It was wet weather and I was going to finish by climbing the beacon but just did not feel in the mood for the pain!

Its been a lazy week

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Well I have sort of had a rest week so far, Tuesday evening we went and saw Star Trek which was excellent but it finished quite late. I was on call on Wednesday and woke up with a very low mood, unfortunately it did not lift during the day and in the evening I just lay down in the on-call room and dozed on and off until the morning.  Thankfully I did not get called as I probably would of been quite rude on the phone.

Thursday was a better day with a reasonable morning.  In the afternoon I did my little Haywards Heath loop which normally takes about an hour.

Today I had the day off, I did a low intensity ride this morning followed this evening by a cycle to the local swimming pool and one hour of swimming. I have not done any serious swimming for a long time and it showed, after 10 lengths my arms and back were aching as I think I over stretched muscles. I managed a hour of swimming but was very disappointed with my ability and so I will try to increase the amount of swimming I do and incorporate it in my training plan.

Next week I have another 100 mile ride so I will need to increase my training.

This weeks training

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

After the hard ride on Sunday, I am having a bit of a rest week. That’s the plan anyway. I cleaned the thick layer of dried road sludge of the bike, removed the flints embeded in my front tyre and fitted a new chain. Following a stupid error I made on Saturday when I shortened the chan by one link too much.
Tomorrow I am on call but will bring a bike to go for a ride in the evening. Thursday I plan to go for a long easy ride with maby a finish up ditchling beacon.
Soph is on call Friday and I am not sure what to do then.
I have no big rides planned for the weekend and will probably have a gentle ride with Soph.

Castle ride tomorrow

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I have just got my kit ready for tomorrow, everything is ready, apart from me that is.
I am worried, even though the weather is looking more promising, if I can’t make it tomorrow even with Liz’s help how can I do it every day for six or seven days on my own?
I had a good ride today and my legs felt strong even in the strong winds but I still find it very hard to climb. I know the answer, lose more weight and do more training.

My first century

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

This Sunday I am going to be doing my first century ride (100 miles).  I am slightly scared as last week was very hard work and this is even longer and hillier. Luckily I am not doing it alone but with Liz one of my friends. It should help by working as a team to pull each other along, and offer encouragement. (more…)

What to do on the 30-31 May

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I need to do a long ride on the weekend of the 30-31 May.  There are several sportives to choose from:

The Cycling Plus sportive in the peak district, the advantages of this are its a cycling weekend with camping at Donnington Park with lots of other activities to do, the down side is getting there and if its raining it will not be that much fun.

The second option is the “Little Lumpy” in Haslemere. It should be good and is near by but I have cycled much of the route before.

The third option is the SWRC May Flyer this is a shorter route 85 miles but you cross the North Downs.

So which one do you think I should do?
