What I have been up to this week

Well as per usual my training plan did not go quite as I intended.  However in many ways it went better, not from the quantity of the training but in the enjoyment I had of it.

First of all a confession last week Soph and I went to the Evans Cycle sale.  This is a massive warehouse sale by one of the largest chain of bike stores in the UK.  Their warehouse is in Gatwick and they put up a massive marquee, anyway I bought some new cycling shoes and a couple of jerseys as my other ones all have holes in from crashing! Soph bought some shoes and clothing too.

So on Tuesday I did go for a ride up Ditchling beacon but after 3 climbs I got bored and knackered so headed home. On Wednesday I fiddled with the new shoes and cleats and did some turbo training in the on-call room, on Thursday I did my usual Haywards Heath loop finishing up the beacon.

Friday evening however Soph and I went for a lovely ride to the Jolly Sportsman in East Chiltington, this is a lovely pub with a great looking menu, We had a couple of drinks and enjoyed the great evening on our way homeThe South Downs.

Yesterday we went for a ride up the Beacon again, this is the first time Soph has done this and she managed to get half way up before walking the rest of the way up. Its a hard climb averaging 10% gradient with 150 m of climbing in about a mile.

Today we cycled to Turners Hill and back, again it was a great day with sunny skies.  We met up with Sophs sister Ruth at the Crown and had lunch before heading back home.

This weekend we are doing the London to Brighton ride and so I am trying to get Soph as prepared as possible.  Training for me will be riding to work and back tomorrow.  Some more Ditchling Beacon climbing on Tuesday. I am on call Wednesday but plan to ride to work then ride home on Thursday.  Friday is not planned yet as I am not sure what I am doing work wise.

On the route planning side, day 2 in France is plotted and I will post it later in the week. I have been designing a sponsor form for work and this is nearly done.  Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
