Sunday sportive Duncton

Well I did it. Following a pretty rubbish week. I managed to complete my hardest ride to date.

I started the 140km ride with some trepidation. Luckily the weather was fantastic and there was a mass start which enabled me to keep my average speed up for about the first 10km then we hit the first big hill and as per usual I got dropped out the back but I kept on going. Some of the scenery was stunning and as for the hills they were very hard work. At about the half way mark my legs started to feel the pain with occasional cramps. Near Goodwood there is a very steep hill which just gets steeper and unfortunately I had to get off and rest for a minute to recover before carrying on. The final 30km were just a drag because by then I just did not have any reserves in my legs so I just crawled up any incline what so ever.
I am just glad I finished there was about 1800m of climbing in total and my time including stops was 6:54
Next weeks ride is longer but not as hilly (I hope).

I have just looked at the route and there is another 1000m of climbing so it will be even tougher than I though!
